My cmp 6c/12 single core is 101 all core about 735 (so my HT get's me a and extra 134 points tad lame) I relay like cinebench scores, it will give you a good impression of how single core speed compares and how all core speed compares. it's much much betterĮven light video editing it will be fine, options of eGPU if needed and lots of fast options for external drives. have to use external drives (but i have to do that any way so ~~ mixed for me no change)īut it will relay depend on what work/apps you useįor normal light use web/office/email etc. legacy problems if you need pre osx10.14 apps noise? dont know what it will be like yet (but cmp is not silent) GPU have to be external, extra cost and any speed problems from thunderbolt v PCI smaller gafa tape it to the bottom of your desk or behind your display for fun and if the 4 ports are each independent then thats super nice (not looked in to it a lot) I dont know how fast '3' is but thunderbolt 2 is vary nice so i hope "3' is a upgrade. The 6c macmin is worth it if you can swing the extra £££ (if you need the extra cores) The macmin 4c CPU will be much faster! than your 2.4ghz cpu in any task up 4 threads maybe close to 2x more if you use apps that use the new instruction sets (if you are cpu limited in the apps) Give it a week or three after the new Mini ships, and we'll all have a better idea how fast it is in real world benchmarks. Narrow down your use case, try and figure what the Apps you use need to run faster, and look for benchmarks that test your Apps, if you can find them. I know my next machine will have to have at least two M.2 slots, 2 or 4 SATA with bays, and socketed CPU's and ram. I also need PCI-E slots, and don't favor expensive third party TB boxes with all the wires, I'm sinking in wires as it is. Me, I need both the highest multi core, and the highest single core I can get. If you need GPU computing, or if you are maxing out all your CPU cores, or if your workflow requires faster single core performance. Without knowing your workflow, we really can't say the better option for you. More optioned out it can be a standby if you can squeeze your workflow into it's limitations.

These methods included measuring the amount of time between when each model was discontinued and when it stopped receiving updates, which is particularly relevant for models like the 2013 Mac Pro, 2014 Mac mini, and 2015 MacBook Air that were sold for multiple years after they were first introduced. The Mini is a good little machine if you need something that "Just Works".Īt the starting price, it's a good machine for grandma.

The end result is a spreadsheet full of dozens of Macs, with multiple metrics for determining how long each one received official software support from Apple. (I've made some notes on how I chose to streamline and organize the data, which I've put at the end of this article). 10.4.11, 11.6) and their last regular security patches. We recorded when each model was released, when Apple stopped selling each model, the last officially supported macOS release for each system, and the dates when those versions of macOS received their last point updates (i.e. Using data from Apple's website and, we pulled together information on more than two decades of Mac releases-almost everything Apple has released between the original iMac in late 1998 and the last Intel Macs in 2020. But how bad is it, really? Is a Mac purchased in 2016 getting fewer updates than one bought in 2012 or 2008 or 1999? And if so, is there an explanation beyond Apple's desire for more users to move to shiny new Apple Silicon Macs? This certainly seems more aggressive than new macOS releases from just a few years ago, where system requirements would tighten roughly every other year or so. Ventura requires a Mac made in 2017 or later, dropping support for a wide range of Monterey-supported Mac models released between 20. When macOS Ventura was announced earlier this month, its system requirements were considerably stricter than those for macOS Monterey, which was released just eight months ago as of this writing.
